Safe, Targeted Rodent Control in the Illawarra & Macarthur
Mice and rats make their way indoors through gaps in walls and roofing, especially through the cooler months. They damage wiring, contaminate food and spread disease, so a fast response matters. Premier Pest Control offers safe, effective rodent baiting and exclusion to stop infestations quickly.
Our technicians inspect for nesting sites and entry points as part of every job, then treat and seal so rodents are removed and kept out — not just knocked back for a few weeks. That means treating where they actually live: roof voids, subfloors and shared wall cavities, plus the exterior perimeter. Traps in the kitchen catch the ones that came out; the population is in the structure.
Signs of a rodent problem
Droppings
Droppings in the pantry, under sinks, in the roof void or along skirting boards — usually the first thing noticed, and they map the routes rodents are actually using.
Scratching at night
Scurrying or scratching overhead in the ceiling and roof void after dark, which is usually rats rather than mice.
Gnaw marks and damage
Chewed packaging, wiring, insulation or timber — a fire and contamination risk that needs fast action.
A musky odour or nests
A distinctive musky smell, or nests of shredded material in roof voids, subfloors and cavities.
Mouse droppings vs rat droppings
Mouse droppings are small and dark, about the size of a grain of rice, and turn up inside cupboards, drawers and pantry shelves. Rat droppings are noticeably larger and follow a run along skirting boards, the roof void or the subfloor.
What a mouse infestation sounds like
Mice are more often heard inside a wall cavity or behind an appliance than overhead. They nest in insulation, behind the dishwasher or fridge and in stored boxes, and they breed quickly — one mouse seen in the kitchen is rarely one mouse a month later.
How we treat rats and mice
We inspect to confirm the species and locate entry points and nesting sites, then combine targeted baiting with exclusion — sealing the gaps that let rodents in. Treatment goes into the roof voids, subfloors and wall cavities rodents travel through rather than only the room you noticed them in, and bait stations are placed safely away from children and pets. We advise on removing the food and harbourage that draw rodents indoors, so the result lasts.

Couldn’t be happier with the service! Was having issues with bugs and mainly cockroaches. Had a general pest control done and then one specific to the cockroaches and noticed a difference instantly!
Premier completed their inspection and rectification control on pests that both my husband and I did not think was a problem. I would like to "Thank", Premier, for detecting, rectifying and providing a follow-up report of what was done.

Rodent Control — frequently asked questions
How do I get rid of rats and mice for good?
Baiting alone only manages the current population — lasting control comes from combining baiting with exclusion (sealing entry points) and removing food and harbourage. Our technicians do all three as part of a rodent treatment.
Is rodent baiting safe around pets and children?
Yes. We use tamper-resistant bait stations placed away from areas children and pets access, and advise on placement for your specific property. We'll talk you through the safety measures before we start.
Why do rodents come inside?
Rats and mice move indoors for warmth, food and shelter — especially as the weather cools, or when nearby land is cleared or developed. Sealing entry points and removing food sources is key to keeping them out.
I have only seen one mouse — do I need pest control?
Usually yes, and sooner is a much smaller job. Mice breed quickly, so one mouse in the kitchen is rarely one mouse a few weeks later, and by the time droppings are turning up in more than one cupboard there is a nest in a cavity somewhere. If you have seen one, tell us where and what else you have noticed.
How do I tell mouse droppings from rat droppings?
Size and location. Mouse droppings are small and dark, roughly the size of a grain of rice, and they turn up inside cupboards, drawers, pantry shelves and behind appliances. Rat droppings are noticeably larger and tend to follow a run — along skirting boards, in the roof void or the subfloor. Mice are also more likely to be heard inside a wall than overhead in the ceiling.
Why not just use traps or supermarket baits?
Because they catch what comes out, not what is nesting. The population lives in the roof void, subfloor and wall cavities, and retail products rarely get placed where the rodents actually travel. We treat the harbourage and the travel routes, then tell you which entry points and food sources to close off so it does not simply refill.
Will they come back?
Rodent pressure is seasonal — they push indoors as it cools in autumn and winter, so a property that had them once is a candidate again. That is why we give you advice on entry points, food sources and harbourage, and why many properties choose a treatment every 6 to 12 months rather than waiting for the scratching to start again.
